The Portable Reality Show

The Portable Reality Show is the Jewel Box Theatre's own resident Comedy Improvisation Troupe. PRS brings inprov to the next level by presenting full-length improvised plays with singing, dancing, outrageous characters and amazing stories. Part vaudeville, part high-wire act, the players of The Portable Reality Show create amazing moments of hilarity, right in front of your eyes!

Improv theater is storytelling, or better said, playwriting on the spot. It has been said that acting in improv is like being an acrobat balancing on a high wire. Improvisers take suggestions for characters and situations from the audience and launch themselves into a story without the benefit of a safety net in the form of a script. Sometimes they succeed gloriously, often they fail ignominiously—but the results are always hilarious.

Whether you are a fan of improv comedy or haven't yet sampled the fun, come watch these undaunted aerialists of The Portable Reality Show try their wings.

Improv Acting Class

The Jewel Box Theater is offering a class called Improv Acting for six weeks this winter. The class will meet at the theater at 225 Iverson St. in downtown Poulsbo, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Thursday evenings: Feb. 2, 9, 16, 26; Mar. 1 and 8. The classes will end with a class performance on Sunday, March 11th at 6:00 p.m.

Cost is $100, due by Jan. 25. The class is open to just 12 people, first come, first served.

Improv is more than just a bunch of silly games. The powerful improv creates and follows fully realized stories and characters to a complete and satisfying end. Improv is also an important tool for actors and public speakers to help them be more natural on stage.

The class is open to all levels, from beginners to experienced, and will focus on improv acting skills used in creating scenes and stories. The class will build performance-based skills to be used in a class showcase following the final class.

Participants will come away with a new understanding of how to utilize the creative power inherent in improv, how to use improv to be a better actor, and gain skills for playing better improv scenes.

The class is being taught by Todd Erler, director of the Portable Reality Show, the theater’s resident improv group. He has more than 20 years of improv acting experience and has trained with members of Del Close’s Second City. He is a former cast member of Unexpected Productions, Seattle’s longest running improv troupe.

Come discover the power of improv in this six week-class. To register or to learn about the class, please contact Todd Erler: 206.595.7093 or todderler@gmail.com.
