CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:
Julia Sterroll (Female-presenting character, stage age late 20s–50s): Sophisticated, glamorous, and comfortably upper-class, but secretly bored with her marriage. Requires excellent comedic timing, a strong handle on high-society wit, and the ability to play a rapid, champagne-fueled descent from polished composure into hilarious hysteria.
Jane Banbury (Female-presenting character, stage age late 20s–50s): Julia’s dramatic, volatile, and easily rattled best friend. She alternates between trying to act like a proper housewife and unleashing her inner, unhinged desires. Must have great physical comedy skills and chemistry with Julia for their iconic Act II showdown.
Fred Sterroll (Male-presenting character, stage age late 20s–50s): Julia’s conventional, unexciting husband who prefers a weekend of golf to romance. He embodies the rigid, naive, upper-middle-class Englishman of the era. Must be adept at playing clueless complacency and sudden, bewildered jealousy.
Willy Banbury (Male-presenting character, stage age late 20s–50s): Jane’s husband, Fred's golfing partner, and a hot-tempered traditionalist. He explodes into a sputtering, fuming, and furiously protective archetype when his pride is threatened. Requires strong vocal energy and a knack for high-stakes comedic outrage.
Maurice Duclos (Male-presenting character, stage age 30s–50s): The suave, ultra-charismatic Frenchman from Julia and Jane’s past. He arrives late in the play but looms large throughout. Must exude effortless continental charm, confidence, and romantic temptation. Note: Requires a credible French accent.
Saunders (Female-presenting character, stage age any): The Sterrolls' extraordinarily capable, deadpan, and all-knowing new maid. A brilliant, scene-stealing comedic role. Saunders is an expert at everything (music, geography, languages) and stands in sharp contrast to the chaotic main couples.

by Tennessee Williams
Director: Jeff Brown: jmbrown33@msn.com
Set in the Mississippi Delta, the play unfolds over one evening in the Pollitt family’s plantation home, where the family is gathered to celebrate the birthday of patriarch Big Daddy Pollitt. Fissures between the family arise, exposing the themes of truth and lies, sibling rivalry, social status, sexual identity, substance abuse, mortality, and dreams denied. An American classic, it is as relevant for today’s audience as it was when it was written. The roles are some of the most interesting and challenging in the American theater canon.

About the show: Set in 1930's Germany. John Halder is a Frankfurt literary professor and an example of the good man: he is apparently devoted to his wife and children and he does his best to look after his aged mother. Cecil P. Taylor, in tracing his hero's progress over eight years plausibly explains the private flaws that lead to endorsement of public monstrosity.. Good invites us to question just what a "good" man is and does and where the bounds of responsibility lie.
Single Roles:
John Halder: (male presenting) Approx. early 40’s. A college lecturer in German Literature. Analytical, logical, educated intellectual. He wants to do what is right, to be a good man. This is a very meaty role. The character never really leaves the stage for the whole show.
Maurice: (Male presenting) Halder’s analyst and friend. Approx age, 40’s. An psychiatrist.. Analytical, logical, educated yet a realist. He sees what is going on and what is happening to the country and John.
Helen: (Female presenting) Halder’s wife, approx. age late 30’s. Artistic, dreamy, unable to cope with the realities of being a housewife and mother.
Mother: (Female presenting) Halder’s mother. Elderly, frail, blind, frightened and dependent
Anne: (Female Presenting) Halder’s student and lover. Early 20’s. Youthful, upbeat and ambitious.
Double roles:
Sister/Elizabeth: (Female presenting) Elizabeth is Freddie’s wife, a socialite,
Freddie/Major: (Male presenting) Freddie is a major in the SS. Outgoing, charming and enthusiastic about the cause.
Bok/Hitler: (Male presenting) Bok is working class, an officer in SS
Doctor/Dispatch Rider: (Male presenting) no-nonsense, efficient.
Bouler/Eichmann: (Male presenting) Party members, politicians
We will also need a handful of musicians to play on stage at the very end of the play. Needed are violinists, viola, cello, clarinet .
Actors in cast can double as musicians.
