Cat on a Hot Tin Roof unfolds over one tense evening at the Mississippi Delta estate of Big Daddy Pollitt, as his family gathers for his birthday. Behind the celebration simmers a struggle over his fortune, with Maggie’s restless drive colliding against Brick’s withdrawal and old wounds.
The Pulitzer Prize-winning play explores family conflict, desire, deception and the fragility of human relationships in the American South. Winner of multiple Tony and Olivier Awards.
Notes from the director, Jeffery Brown:
This is a classic of the American theater, but the themes it tackles are still relevant; indeed they are “universal” themes, which is why audiences still want to see it and why theaters still produce it. It has scarcely gone out of production since its Broadway debut in 1955.
βIn a nutshell, I wanted to tackle an “American Classic” which I believe still has potency and relevance for a contemporary audience. In addition, I relish the challenge of finding strong actors to embody the main protagonists with credible, powerful performances. For a director, this is as attractive a script as the parts are for the actors.
